Candle Safety & Legal Disclaimers

Last updated: August 27, 2026

These statements supplement our Terms of Service. Buying or burning a Dread WickCo candle means you have read them.

Full safety instructions:

Candles are decorative home-fragrance products that use an open flame. Misuse can cause fire, severe injury, death, or property damage.

1. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Blow it out or snuff it before you leave the room or go to sleep.
2. Keep the candle out of reach of children and pets. Wax and flame are not toys.
3. Place the candle on a stable, uncluttered, heat-safe surface. Do not burn on wood furniture without a proper holder or plate if the vessel can overheat.
4. Keep hair, clothing, papers, dried flowers, herbs, crystals sitting too close to the wick, and fabric away from the flame. If a candle includes decorative elements, monitor them. Remove anything that can catch or smother the wick.
5. Keep the melt pool free of matches, wick trimmings, and debris.
6. Do not burn in a draft (open window, fan, HVAC vent). Drafts cause smoking, uneven burn, and container overheating.
7. The first burn should last long enough for the melt pool to reach the edge of the vessel when possible. That helps reduce tunneling. Do not exceed 4 hours even on the first burn.
8. If the flame is too high, flickering wildly, or the vessel is too hot to approach safely, extinguish, let it cool, trim the wick, and reassess placement.
9. Discontinue use if the vessel is cracked, chipped, or leaking.
10. Do not burn a candle all the way down. Leaving about ½ inch of wax protects the glass and the surface underneath.

Fragrance, sensitivity, and allergens:

Our candles use fragrance oils (and, where stated, other aromatic materials) in wax.

- They are not cosmetics, drugs, or air-purifying devices

- If you are scent-sensitive, pregnant, or have respiratory issues, use extra caution or do not burn
- Discontinue use if you or anyone in the home feels unwell
- Keep unused candles stored cool and out of direct sun

Fire, property damage, and assumption of risk:

You assume all risk of lighting and using the product. Dread WickCo. is not liable for fire, smoke damage, burned furniture, broken glass, melted surfaces, injury, death, or pet harm arising from use or misuse of our candles, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

A candle left burning, placed too close to flammables, or used on an unsafe surface is not a product defect.

California Proposition 65:

Dread WickCo ships to California.

Proposition 65 requires warnings before exposure to certain chemicals listed by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Fragrance components and byproducts of burning a candle (including soot and combustion products) may include listed substances.

All Dread WickCo products are formulated to comply with California Proposition 65 and do not require a Prop 65 warning.
